PTSD and EFT

Licensed Certified Coach

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a problem that affect people who went through a traumatic event and while they survived it, they are still suffering from emotional distress, sometimes many years after the event.

While most associate PTSD with war veterans, PTSD can be associated with many traumatic events, such as rape, natural catastrophes, violence, abuse of any form. In the book EFT for PTSD, Gary Craig says that

while the official definition [for PTSD] is the one of the DMS-IV, it continues to evolve, however, and I think it is safe to say that anyone whose thoughts or behaviours have been affected by a difficult event or situation is a likely candidate.

What are the symptoms of PTSD?

  • Insomnia
  • Digestive disorders
  • Flashbacks and nightmares
  • Irritability, jumpiness, being easily triggered by events
  • Rage, grief and guilt
  • Anxiety, panic attacks, depression
  • Feeling isolated and unsafe

Study demonstrating that EFT is efficient in dealing with PTSD

In February 2013, the results of a randomized controlled study was published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease. In this study called the Veteran Stress Project, the efficacy and efficiency of EFT was demonstrated compared to other form of therapies, for veterans. There has been many studies published in the past 10 years, but this one was very precisely focused on PTSD and the potential benefit of EFT. And it demonstrates that PTSD is not a fatality and that it can in most cases, be dealt with without drugs or side effects.

You will find more information about this study and others and how it can help War veteran here.

This is huge for those who are suffering from PTSD because there is finally something that will effectively help them.

However, it is also important because if a simple method like EFT can help with very serious disorder like PTSD and alleviate symptoms on war veteran, it is only logical that it will help others who suffer from stress and less severe problem. And this is good news.
