About the practice
About Joelle's Practice
What is Joelle's Practice?
Joelle's Practice is an online psychotherapy and professional stress support practice for professionals living abroad who are experiencing expat stress, internal pressure, decision strain or the emotional cost of functioning under sustained load.
The practice is built around a simple understanding: life abroad often requires continuous adaptation. Over time, that adaptation can create internal load. When internal load stays high, it can reduce cognitive capacity, emotional steadiness, decision-making and professional functioning.
Sessions help clients understand this pattern, reduce the pressure they are carrying and recover enough internal capacity to think, feel, choose and function with more steadiness.
Who is Joelle Amouroux?
Joelle Amouroux is the practitioner behind Joelle's Practice. She is a psycho-practitioner and certified coach who works online with professionals living abroad, combining psychotherapy, coaching-informed structure, trauma-informed practice and practical understanding of professional pressure.
Her work is especially suited to capable, responsible people who are used to managing, performing, adapting and solving problems, but who now feel that the internal cost of keeping everything together has become too high.
What does online expat stress support mean?
Online expat stress support is support for the emotional, cognitive, professional and identity pressure that can build when life operates across countries, cultures, systems, languages, relationships and responsibilities.
For many professionals living abroad, the issue is not weakness or lack of effort. It is sustained adaptation. You may be dealing with work pressure, relocation decisions, distance from familiar support, cultural adjustment, relationship strain, uncertainty about the future or the sense that you are managing everything but not really recovering.
Online sessions create a private space to understand what is happening beneath the surface and reduce the internal load that has built up over time.
How does Joelle's Practice understand professional expat stress?
Joelle's Practice understands professional expat stress as a pressure pattern, not just a mood problem.
The pattern often looks like this:
Life abroad creates continuous adaptation. Continuous adaptation increases internal load. Internal load reduces emotional and cognitive capacity. Reduced capacity creates decision strain, reactivity, overthinking, numbness, avoidance or difficulty switching off. Over time, professional functioning may still continue, but it becomes more costly.
The aim of support is to help reduce that internal load so capacity can return. When capacity returns, decisions often become clearer, emotional responses become steadier and professional functioning requires less force.
Is Joelle's Practice therapy, coaching or both?
Both. Joelle’s Practice combines psychotherapy with coaching-informed work, depending on the client’s needs and what is appropriate in the session.
Psychotherapy allows space to understand and work with emotional patterns, protective responses, past experiences and the effects of sustained stress. Coaching-informed work can add practical structure around decisions, boundaries, professional pressure and next steps.
The distinction is not rigidly imposed from session to session. The work is integrative and adapted to the person rather than based on a fixed formula.
Who this support is for
Who This Support Is For
Who does Joelle usually work with?
Joelle usually works with professionals, entrepreneurs, remote workers, internationally mobile people, accompanying partners and people whose personal or professional life operates across countries.
Many clients are capable and responsible. They may be performing well, meeting obligations, supporting others, running businesses, working remotely or managing complex transitions. From the outside, they may look fine. Internally, they may feel overloaded, less clear, more reactive, more tired, less confident or less able to access their usual sense of self.
Is this only for expats?
Joelle's Practice is primarily positioned around expat stress support for professionals living abroad, but you do not need to fit one narrow definition of "expat".
This support may be relevant if you are living, working, relocating, traveling or making decisions across countries, cultures, systems or identities.
The important question is not whether the label "expat" fits perfectly. The important question is whether international life is adding internal load to work, relationships, decisions, identity or emotional regulation.
Do I need to be in crisis to book a session?
No. You do not need to wait until things become a crisis.
Many clients book when they are still functioning but notice that the internal cost of functioning is increasing. That may show up as overthinking, irritability, emotional flatness, decision fatigue, difficulty switching off, reduced confidence, avoidance or a sense that life abroad feels heavier than expected.
Support can be especially useful before pressure becomes harder to manage.
What if I am still functioning but feel under pressure?
That is exactly the stage where this work can be useful.
Many professionals delay getting support because they can still perform. They are still working, parenting, leading, managing, earning, solving problems or keeping life moving. But functioning does not always mean things are fine. Sometimes it simply takes far more effort than it used to.
Sessions help look at what is happening beneath the surface so the pressure does not have to keep building unnoticed.
Can this help with professional pressure abroad?
Yes. Professional pressure abroad can feel different from ordinary work stress because it often combines with distance, adaptation, cultural expectations, practical uncertainty, visa or relocation questions, identity shifts and reduced access to familiar support.
Joelle's Practice supports professionals who are carrying work pressure while also managing the extra emotional and cognitive load of living internationally.
The work can help you understand why your usual coping strategies may no longer be enough and how to recover capacity without dismissing the real demands you are facing.
Can this help with decision strain or major life choices abroad?
Yes. Living abroad can make decisions feel heavier because choices often affect several areas of life at once: work, relationships, family, location, money, belonging, identity and long-term security.
Decision strain often increases when internal load is already high. The mind keeps circling the same options, but clarity does not come because the system is overloaded.
Sessions do not tell you what to choose. They help reduce the pressure around the decision so you can approach it with more steadiness, honesty and cognitive space.
Can this help if I feel disconnected, numb or unlike myself?
Yes, if the disconnection is linked to sustained pressure, adaptation, emotional overload or the internal cost of functioning.
Some clients do not arrive feeling visibly distressed. Instead, they feel flat, detached, less present, less motivated or less connected to themselves. Others feel reactive, restless, unable to switch off or constantly responsible.
These experiences can sometimes emerge when someone has been carrying too much for too long. Sessions help explore what may be contributing to the disconnection, what pressure is underneath and what might help you feel more present and connected again.

Approach and Methods
Approach and Methods
What approach does Joelle use?
Joelle uses an integrative approach that combines therapeutic support, coaching-informed structure and practical understanding of professional pressure.
Depending on the client and situation, sessions may draw on EFT, EMDR-informed work, CBT, NLP, coaching and other therapeutic tools. The method is adapted to the person, not applied as a fixed script.
The central question is always: what is creating the internal pressure, what is keeping it going, and what would help you feel calmer, think more clearly and respond differently?
Is the work trauma-informed?
Yes. Joelle's work is trauma-informed.
This means sessions are paced with attention to safety, consent, readiness, emotional capacity and the client's nervous system. It does not mean every session focuses on trauma. It means the work respects how past experiences, protective patterns, stress responses and sustained pressure can affect functioning in the present.
This can be particularly relevant for clients who appear capable and high-functioning while carrying significant internal pressure. The work does not assume that functioning well on the outside means everything feels manageable on the inside.
What is EFT and how is it used?
EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques. It is often known as tapping.
In Joelle's Practice, EFT may be used to help reduce emotional intensity, explore internal pressure and work with patterns that feel difficult to shift through thinking alone.
EFT is not used as a one-size-fits-all technique. It is part of a wider tailored approach and is only used when appropriate for the client and situation.
Does Joelle use EMDR?
Yes. Joelle may use EMDR-informed work when appropriate, depending on the client, the issue and what is needed in the session.
This does not mean every client needs trauma processing or that sessions follow one fixed method. EMDR-informed work may be relevant when past experiences, emotional triggers or stuck responses are affecting present-day functioning.
How is this different from generic life coaching?
Joelle's Practice is different from generic life coaching because the focus is not simply on goals, motivation, mindset or productivity.
The work looks at the internal pressure underneath behavior. It considers emotional load, adaptation, decision strain, protective patterns, nervous system responses, professional responsibility and the specific complexity of life abroad.
The aim is to understand what is creating the pressure, help you feel steadier and think more clearly, so you can respond to work and life with greater flexibility.
Will I be given advice?
Joelle’s role is not to tell you what to do with your life, relationships, work or relocation decisions.
The work helps you understand what is happening internally so you can make decisions with more clarity and less reactivity. Where useful, sessions may include practical structure, reflection or next-step clarification, but the aim is not to replace your own judgement.
Practical Questions and Boundaries

Does Joelle give medical, legal or immigration advice?
No. Joelle does not provide medical, legal, financial or immigration advice.
Sessions can help you work through the emotional and psychological pressure around major life, work or relocation decisions, but they do not replace specialist advice from a doctor, lawyer, accountant or immigration adviser.
Can this replace therapy with a local mental health provider?

Joelle's Practice works online with professionals living abroad who are dealing with stress, internal pressure, emotional overload, decision strain and difficulties affecting their everyday or professional life.
